Family and military education

Khalid was born in Riyadh in 1988, a son of King Salman and Fahda bint Falah. He is a younger brother of Mohammed bin Salman. He attended King Faisal Air Academy and trained as a military pilot. The family background explains his dynastic connection, while the aviation education identifies a specific professional stage before later government appointments.

Air-force service

His military career included flying F-15 aircraft and training associated with the Saudi air force. Public accounts place that experience before his ambassadorial appointment. Operational service, academic courses and honorary military associations are different categories. The profile therefore records aviation as an earlier career period rather than implying that he continues every former flying assignment while serving as a minister.

Ambassador to the United States

Khalid became Saudi ambassador to the United States in 2017. The position involved official representation in Washington during a period of intensive attention to Saudi policy. His diplomatic role was separate from the defense portfolio held at the time by Mohammed bin Salman. The two brothers’ public offices should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both worked on security relationships.

Deputy minister of defense

In February 2019 he became deputy minister of defense, leaving the Washington ambassadorship. Reema bint Bandar succeeded him as ambassador. The transition connects two biographies in this directory and illustrates how a diplomatic appointment can precede a national ministerial role. The deputy position is recorded as a separate stage from his later promotion to head the ministry.

Minister from 2022

He was appointed minister of defense on 27 September 2022, when Mohammed bin Salman became prime minister. The defense ministry concerns armed-forces policy and administration through a large institutional structure. Its ministerial leadership is significant, but military operations and procurement programmes involve many officials, services and legal responsibilities beyond an individual biography.

Place within Al Saud

Khalid is a son of the current king and brother of the crown prince, but he is not identified as the heir in current official records. His facts panel instead names the defense ministry. The distinction allows readers to connect royal family relationships with actual offices and avoids presenting every senior prince as a future sovereign or assigning a succession rank without an authoritative basis.
