Family and early education

Hussein was born in Amman on 28 June 1994, the eldest son of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania. His siblings are Iman, Salma and Hashem. He completed school at King’s Academy in Jordan in 2012. The family connection places him within the Hashemite house, while his education provides the starting chronology of his own public life.

Appointment as crown prince

A royal decree named him crown prince on 2 July 2009. The title identifies the designated heir; it does not mean that he became king at that time. He has acted as regent on occasions under the applicable arrangements. Temporary regency and accession are different events, even when an heir performs some duties ordinarily associated with the sovereign.

University and Sandhurst

Hussein graduated from Georgetown University in international history in 2016 and completed training at Sandhurst in 2017. Those are distinct academic and military qualifications. His service in the Jordanian armed forces developed alongside official engagements. The chronology keeps these stages clear rather than treating every public appearance as proof of completed military training or a particular command appointment.

Youth and international representation

In April 2015 he chaired a UN Security Council debate on young people and peace. The Crown Prince Foundation, established in 2015, focuses on areas including employability, leadership and citizenship. These activities connect international advocacy with domestic initiatives, but the foundation’s programmes have their own implementation and should be evaluated through evidence rather than royal association alone.

Marriage and the next generation

He married Rajwa Al Saif on 1 June 2023. Their daughter, Princess Iman bint Al Hussein, was born in August 2024. She should not be confused with Hussein’s sister, also named Iman. The distinction is useful in a directory where repeated names across generations can otherwise create false relationships or misleading links.

Supporting the sovereign

His public work includes visits, representative missions and engagements alongside Abdullah. The king remains the sovereign, while Hussein’s duties form part of preparation and service as heir. Linking his profile with those of Abdullah and Rania helps readers understand the family relationships without attributing the same constitutional position to the king, queen consort and crown prince.
