Hamdan bin Mohammed is a son of Dubai’s ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum. He was born in Dubai in 1982 and attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. His education and family position preceded the executive appointments that define his current public role. Membership of a ruling family and the exercise of a named government responsibility should be identified separately.
Early appointments in Dubai
Hamdan’s early leadership responsibilities included chairing Dubai’s Executive Council from September 2006, before his appointment as crown prince in 2008. The Executive Council supports the ruler in supervising the emirate’s government. Its work includes coordination and review of public policy, making it an institutional role rather than only a ceremonial position attached to a royal title.
Crown Prince of Dubai
He was appointed Crown Prince on 1 February 2008. The title identifies his place within Dubai’s succession arrangement; it does not make him the ruler of the emirate. Mohammed bin Rashid remains the ruler identified in current official records. Keeping the two positions distinct is particularly useful in a family directory where closely related names and overlapping public appearances can otherwise cause confusion.
Federal responsibilities
In July 2024 Hamdan was appointed a UAE deputy prime minister and minister of defense. These national positions extend beyond the emirate-level work of the Dubai Executive Council. His official biography therefore crosses two levels of administration. The word prince alone does not explain the scope of those responsibilities, just as a federal ministry does not erase his separate role within Dubai’s ruling family.
Sport, poetry and public presence
He is also known as Fazza, the name used in his poetry, and for participation in equestrian endurance sport. These activities contribute to a public identity that extends beyond formal appointments. Sporting participation and a visible social-media presence should nevertheless be distinguished from executive powers: popularity, competition results and statutory responsibilities describe different aspects of a public figure.
A clearly identified heir and office-holder
The profile’s facts panel lists the Al Maktoum family connection and the verified public roles. Country grouping places him with the other UAE biographies, while his own chronology separates succession, council leadership and federal appointments. This approach makes the directory useful for readers trying to understand who does what, rather than treating royal status as a substitute for an explanation of government.
