Birth and family relationships

Sofía was born in Madrid on 29 April 2007, the second daughter of Felipe and Letizia. Her elder sister is Leonor, Princess of Asturias. She was born during the reign of her grandfather Juan Carlos I. These relationships explain her place in the Spanish royal family, while her own biographical record should be distinguished from the constitutional preparation of the heir.

The title infanta

In the Spanish royal context, infanta is a title distinct from Princess of Asturias. Leonor holds the latter as heir to the crown; Sofía does not hold the same succession title. Translating both simply as princess can conceal that difference. The profile therefore retains the Spanish title and explains the family connection without attributing the public office of the sovereign or heir to her.

Education in Madrid

Sofía attended Santa María de los Rosales School in Madrid, also attended by her sister and earlier by her father. Schooling provides the central chronological structure for her early biography. It should not be recast as a professional government career. Her family’s public position made some educational milestones newsworthy, but the nature of those milestones remains educational rather than executive.

International Baccalaureate in Wales

She continued her education at UWC Atlantic College in Wales from 2023 to 2025. The move followed Leonor’s earlier period at the same college. Similar educational paths do not mean identical official responsibilities, and a family biography benefits from keeping each sister’s dates clear. The completed school period is recorded independently of speculation about future public or professional choices.

Public appearances and representation

Sofía has appeared with her parents and sister at national ceremonies and royal engagements. Participation makes her a visible member of the family but does not in itself establish a ministerial or military office. This entry concentrates on documented public appearances and education, avoiding invented charitable leadership positions or an inflated list of achievements that the available official record does not support.

Position within the Bourbon page

The family page places Sofía alongside Felipe, Letizia and Leonor, with the relationships stated explicitly. It is a selected contemporary family view, not the entire Bourbon genealogy. As her adult public life develops, dated sources can support future additions. For now, the profile provides a clear account of identity, title and completed education without pretending that a young royal must already have a long institutional career.
