A performance-led beginning

Stefani Germanotta developed the Lady Gaga identity through music and performance in New York before signing with Interscope. The Fame, released in 2008, introduced an international audience to songs such as Just Dance and Poker Face. The record connected dance-pop production with a visual presentation that made costume, movement and public identity integral parts of the work.

Pop worlds and changing styles

The Fame Monster extended that early period with songs including Bad Romance. Born This Way approached pop as both a musical and cultural statement, while Artpop pursued a different relationship between electronic music and visual art. Joanne later moved toward a more restrained sonic setting. These projects demonstrate deliberate changes of emphasis rather than a single uninterrupted visual persona.

Jazz and collaboration

Her collaboration with Tony Bennett on Cheek to Cheek brought jazz standards into the centre of her recording activity. Love for Sale continued that partnership. The albums placed attention on phrasing, interpretation and the relationship between two vocalists, offering a different context from her large-scale pop performances. They also broadened the public account of her musical training and interests.

A substantial screen career

American Horror Story: Hotel preceded her leading film performance in A Star Is Born. The film connected acting and music around an original dramatic narrative. Shallow, which she co-wrote and performed, received the Academy Award for Best Original Song. House of Gucci subsequently placed her in another kind of screen role, separate from the singer-songwriter character of the earlier film.

Creative work and public projects

Chromatica returned dance music to the foreground of her studio work. Other professional activities include the Born This Way Foundation and the beauty business Haus Labs. Her profile is therefore best read as a combination of specific disciplines: songwriting, vocal performance, image-making, interpretation and acting. Awards document milestones, while the differences between the projects explain the range of the career.
