Education and early employment

Sajwani was born in Dubai in 1953 and studied at the University of Washington. He worked in the energy sector before establishing his own venture. The education and employment period preceded property development, which is why his biography should not begin by treating the entire DAMAC history as a real-estate business from its first day.

Catering and logistics

He established the group’s original catering business in 1982. Serving large organizations required procurement, staffing, logistics and consistent delivery. Those capabilities differ from selling property, but they provided operating experience before the later expansion. The early business also demonstrates that a corporate group can retain its founding name while changing the balance of activities substantially.

Entry into property

DAMAC Properties was established in 2002 as Dubai’s property market expanded. Sajwani had already developed hospitality interests before that step. The 1982 group origin and the 2002 property-company founding are separate dates. Keeping them distinct prevents a common error in profiles that apply the age of the parent group to every subsidiary or business line.

Developments and branded projects

DAMAC’s activity grew across residential projects, communities and hospitality-related developments. Partnerships with fashion and entertainment brands helped differentiate some projects. Branding is one element of a development; delivery also depends on land, approvals, construction, financing and long-term operation. A founder biography should not substitute a well-known partner’s name for evidence about a particular project’s completion or quality.

A wider portfolio

The group later developed interests in luxury fashion and data centers alongside property and hospitality. It acquired Roberto Cavalli in 2019. Those businesses have distinct customers and capital requirements. Planned data-center capacity, an announced investment and an operating facility are different milestones, so the profile avoids presenting future commitments as already delivered results.

Business context in Dubai

Sajwani’s career connects changing market opportunities with an organization’s ability to enter new sectors. Current official material identifies him as DAMAC’s founder and chairman. The profile records that role without acting as a property recommendation, offering expected returns or treating personal prominence as proof of the performance of every development associated with the group.
